Our Pre-Christmas Cleaning Checklist
You only have a few weekends left before the busy festive season starts, so let’s take a look at how to clean your home in time for Christmas (with a little help from Domestique!)
Start In The Kitchen
The kitchen is the king of Christmas, which is why our cleaning checklist starts here.
From brewing mulled wine and assembling canapes, to preparing a huge Christmas dinner on the 25th, this room will be at the centre of all the pre-Christmas action, so get it ready with these simple steps.
Clear Out The Fridge: It’s time to say goodbye to any excess food in your fridge or freezer, as you will need all the space you can get for your big Christmas shop, so clear it all out and remove the shelves and drawers for individual cleaning.
Wipe down the inside of the fridge with cleaning spray and kitchen roll before drying it and return the freshly clean drawers and shelves to their positions, ready to be filled with pigs in blankets, pudding, and turkey!
Clean The Oven: Christmas is the season for home cooked meals and family dining, and you will need an oven that is up to the task.
The interior, hob, grill, and even the extractor fan will all need to be thoroughly cleaned and degreased before they can be used. For the best results, get in touch with your local Domestique cleaning team for a specialist clean that leaves your oven sparkling and safe to use.
Clean The Living Room
Where better to spend time with the people that matter most than in a warm, cosy living room scented by festive candles and lit by a roaring fire … provided that it is clean and tidy!
Tackle The Carpets: Pick up all the toys, shoes, and general clutter and give your carpets a good hoover before arranging to have them professionally cleaned.
We use specialist equipment to tackle stains and discolouration, and return your carpets to their original condition. Once we’ve restored them, all that’s left to do is to hoover before and during your guests’ stay – and to remind everyone to be careful with their wine glasses near your carpets!
Have The Windows Cleaned: The outside of your home should be just as welcoming as the interior, so have your windows professionally cleaned to keep them free of snow, ice, and grit from the roads.
Our water-fed pole machinery and purified water systems will get your windows, frames, and sills looking their best before your guests arrive, but you should still dust your window sills regularly and wipe down any window decorations.
Prepare The Guest Room
Even if you are not planning to use your guest room this Christmas, the offer of a room for the night is always appreciated (particularly after a late gathering), so get your spare room ready for any unexpected overnight guests with our help.
Freshen Up The Space: If your guest room hasn’t been used for a while then open up the windows and air out the space before hoovering it, dusting the surfaces, and clearing room in the wardrobe for your guests’ belongings.
Clean The Mattress: Mattresses should ideally be cleaned every 6 months, so if you can’t remember the last time you did this then why not take this opportunity to have all the mattresses in the house cleaned in one go?
Contact us for professional mattress cleaning services today, and don’t forget to make the bed with fresh sheets, a clean duvet, and decorative cushions for an extra inviting touch.
Sanitise The Bathroom
You’re nearly finished with your Christmas cleaning tasks!
Now it’s time to finish up in the bathroom, and remember – the winter months are rife with colds so prioritising cleanliness is extra important at this time of year.
Clean The Fixtures: Stock up on cleaning supplies, press ‘play’ on your favourite Christmas playlist, and remember to give yourself breaks whilst you tackle such a large-scale clean.
Starting with the sink, then moving onto the bath and shower, and finishing with the toilet is the best way to get your bathroom gleaming, but don’t forget that your local Domestique team will do it for you from just £16.95 per hour!
Restock On Toiletries: If you are hosting multiple gatherings this Christmas, then invest in a little basket of toiletries for your guests to use, including soaps, loo roll, and even a spare toothbrush or two.
This is also a good way to avoid having to nip out to the shop for essentials during the Christmas holidays – unless it’s for a last-minute tub of chocolate to share in front of your favourite Christmas films!
