A Clean House is a Happy Home - Timesaving Hacks

Tidying up probably sits low down on the ‘tasks I’d love to do’ list, but it’s a necessary evil if we want to live in a clean and clutter free environment. While we may not always have the time to have a four hour cleanathon, we’d like to share ten top tips to save you time and help keep your home looking spotless.

  1. Don’t hoard

Some people find it tricky to throw things away, which means they hoard things until they are bursting out of drawers and cupboards. While you might be attached to ‘ted’ that you got when you were four, do you really need it?

Cupboards full of ‘stuff’ take up valuable room. We like to use the two year rule – if you haven’t looked at it or used it during a two year period, give it to the charity shop or rehome it with Freecycle.

  2. Buy some microfiber dusting slippers

If you’ve ever hurt your back when you’ve been bent down cleaning the skirting boards, let us introduce you to these life changing slippers. No more kneeling or stooping. Hurrah!

  3. Use cola to clean the loo

If your loo is in need of a spruce, try pouring some cola along the toilet bowl and flush for a glistening result.

  4. Deep clean the shower head

This is an old-school method that means you won’t be scrubbing the shower head for the next three hours.

After showering, fill a sandwich bag with baking soda and vinegar. Tie this around the showerhead and leave to soak overnight. All the debris will come off easily with an old toothbrush. Voila!

  5. Get rid of smells

Sometimes, no amount of scrubbing will get rid of a smell. Save yourself some time and sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the offending area and leave for 20 minutes before vacuuming it up. Who needs Shake and Vac?

  6. Clean both sides of the blinds

If you’ve ever cleaned venetian blinds you’ll know how long it can take. This trick is a godsend for those who have blinds with slats in – get a pair of tongs and use an elastic band to wrap a microfiber cloth around each arm. You’ll now be able to clean both sides simultaneously. Winner.

  7. Never underestimate baby wipes

Baby wipes are very effective at cleaning up splodges and spillages. With very little moisture and gentle cleaning agents, you’d be surprised at what they can mop up.

  8. The power of the double squeegee

A double sided squeegee is the best window cleaning tool. Dip it into your solution of choice and snake it left to right, from top to bottom.

  9. Love your lint roller

Lint rollers make excellent dusters, roll over lampshades, fabrics and shelves to dust and vacuum all at once.

  10. Employ a professional cleaner

If you want more time to spend on your family, business or other commitments, the easiest thing to do is to let someone else do your cleaning for you.
