How long will you spend on pre-Christmas cleaning?

With Christmas less than a week away, it is easy to get carried away with the Christmas spirit and forget about all the hard work and effort that goes into delivering a successful festive season. However, as anyone who has ever hosted Christmas guests will know, now is the time for mad rushing around, cleaning everything in sight and getting guest bedrooms prepared for festive visitors.

So how long would you say that you spend on pre-Christmas cleaning?

A couple of hours, a couple of days or even a couple of weeks? It may (or may not) surprise you to learn that we spend between 10 and 18 days in the festive run-up, getting our homes pristine for the Christmas period. These are the stats according to kitchen roll brand Regina, who carried out the research, which also revealed 63% of us actually sacrifice spending time with our friends and loved ones just so we can get our homes sparking clean and clutter-free for Christmas.

Whilst is might be too late to call in the professional cleaners this Christmas, we have a few tips that might help if you have left everything until the last minute.

Last minute pre-Christmas cleaning tips

1. Prioritise the entrance – it’s the first thing your guests will see so make sure your porch, front door and driveway are clear of clutter, cobwebs and dust. To make your entrance even more festive, add a wreath or Christmas lights to make your home look inviting.

2. Hide the hallway clutter – the hallway is the next step your visitors will take through your home, so hiding away your usual clutter such as coats and shoes until your visitors have gone will help make your home look bigger and cleaner, not to mention giving you more space for Christmas decorations!

3. Stock your bathrooms – you might have cleaned your bathrooms and cloakrooms thoroughly but don’t forget to stock them up with provisions. There is nothing worse than running out of toilet paper or soap when you are in someone else’s house, so make your guests feel at home and well looked after by putting spare bottles and rolls in each bathroom.

4. Clean the mirrors – they might get neglected in your regular weekly clean but giving your mirrors a clean and using a lint free cloth to achieve a streak free finish will brighten up your walls and reflect all that festive cheer.

Our final tip is not to get too disappointed if it looks like a bomb has exploded within minutes of your festive guests arriving, this is all part of the fun at this time of year, so kick back and relax now that the hard work has been done.
