Summer is supposed to be a time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the sun… but for busy families, it often means a house full of energetic little ones with no school, and no schedule to stick to. It’s hard to keep on top of your regular cleaning tasks whilst the house is at max capacity, but you and your family deserve a tidy, clean home to spend the summer in, and we’ve put together this list of quick, no-stress cleaning tasks to help you do so.
We’ve split them into daily and weekly tasks, and a one-off reset at the end of the holidays.
Daily Cleaning Tasks
It can be hard to find the time to clean every day, so don’t forget to get the little ones involved!
- Wipe Down Surfaces: This is a task that is best done everyday, or sometimes twice a day, to keep your kitchen worktops, dining table, and coffee tables free of clutter.
- Sweep The Floors: It’s much easier to sweep, hoover, or mop at least one room per day, instead of leaving it until the end of the week. The hallway and back door in particular will need daily attention as the little ones come and go as they please.
- Put Everything Away: You have plenty of (little!) helping hands to keep the house in good order, so enlist their help in tidying up the communal areas, and remind them to put their toys, craft supplies, and books away at the end of each day.
Weekly Cleaning Tasks
Manage the clutter and keep your home clean with these weekly tasks to add to your list.
- Clean The Windows: You’ll want to keep the windows open this summer, especially after the record-breaking heatwaves, but sills and frames can quickly accumulate lots of dust and pollen. A weekly dust will keep your home allergen-free, and the cool air flowing in.
- Clean The Bathroom: This is especially important if there are guests planning on staying with you this summer, or if your little ones regularly have friends over. Set aside half an hour, grab your cleaning supplies, and give the bath, shower, sink and toilet a good clean.
- Clean The Oven: We don’t mean inside and out, since it’s unlikely that you’ll be using the oven much during the summer holidays anyway. A simple wipe down of the hob, the grill, and the outside of the oven will suffice, and don’t forget to clean the inside of the microwave too.
One-Off Cleaning Tasks
Finally, save these simple tasks until the end of the holidays to fully reset your home after a busy summer.
- Clear Out The Spare Room: Once the last guest of summer has said their goodbyes, it won’t take too long to change the bedding, air out the room, and recover the forgotten charger that has inevitably fallen down the side of the bed.
- Declutter The Fridge: With picky teas and back garden dining at an end, it’s time to clear out any expired items, wipe down the shelves, and make room for the first shop of autumn.
- Store Away Summer: This final task is one for the whole family. Grab your camping supplies, swimming costumes, and summer decor, and return them to the attic or wardrobes, ready for summer ‘27.
